How it works

1. Watch & listen

25 lessons comprised of podcast episodes, video instruction and text-based prompts.

An hour a day is what you should expect to spend on the workshop. Our team of coaches is there to support you every step of the way.

2. Create

By the end of The Podcasting Workshop, you can be a podcaster with a podcast out in the wild.

You will have conducted interviews and edited audio; you will have created and published actual podcast episodes.

3. Connect

Share responses and questions in the 24/7 discussion board. You’ll soon discover just how much you have in common with others on this journey, even if they live in a different country, serve a different audience and have access to different resources. This diversity is hard to find anywhere else.

The Podcasting Workshop in a nutshell…

I am Steve Heatherington and I run the workshop. I was a former student and then Head Coach for the workshop from 2020-2023, working with the founders, Alex DiPalma, (podcast producer and co-founder of Domino Sound), and Seth Godin (best-selling author and host of the Akimbo podcast).

Who’s it for?

This workshop is for people with something to say and a change to make. It is for anyone interested in creating their own podcast. Our graduates include entrepreneurs, freelancers, artists, non-profit leaders, teachers, corporate linchpins, writers…

We’ll cover every step of the process from conceiving an original idea for a podcast to publishing your finished episodes.

I can’t promise you’ll build a profitable or popular podcast. I can help you clarify your message, connect with the right people and find your voice by using it, so you can make a difference.

How does it work?

The Podcasting Workshop has three elements:

1. The lessons

We use 25 lessons to build your foundation for success. They include a daily podcast episode, video instruction, and prompts. The lessons build on each other to progressively grow your confidence and podcasting knowledge and experience. They are posted Monday–Friday.

What we cover:

  • Developing your podcast idea – title, description and most importantly purpose
  • Developing a format for your show
  • How to record your own audio
  • Interviewing, including remote recording
  • Identifying and booking guests for your podcast
  • Learning audio editing
  • Using stories that resonate with and engage your listeners
  • Adding music to your podcast
  • How to publish/distribute your podcast
  • Creating a long-term plan for your podcast
2. The prompts

You do the work and share it.

Each lesson comes with questions that challenge you to apply it to your own work and a call-to-action: to share your answers and insights on the discussion board. Learning with and from other students is vital to building your podcast foundations for the longer term.

3. The conversations:

The heart of this workshop comes from connecting with your peers via the 24/7 discussion board. It comes when you support each other on this journey. You can expect a significant level of helpful feedback and the more you contribute, the more you will grow.

We also have weekly live lessons and Q&A sessions led by Steve Heatherington.

What is the time commitment?

The Workshop has 5 weeks of lessons and three weeks of getting to the point of launching your podcast. Following the workshop, there is also a free bonus trial-membership of the Audio Change Makers Community.

You should expect to spend an average of one hour daily on the workshop. Your time will be spent diving into the lessons (posted Mon–Fri), conducting interviews, editing audio, posting your work, giving/receiving written feedback, publishing podcast episodes, and engaging with your global peers. Of course, the more time you give to it, the more you will learn. And remember, you are not doing this on your own.

What technology is required?

  • Computer – Desktop or laptop
  • Internet access
  • Zoom – To participate in the live calls we’ll be using Zoom.
  • Camera and microphone – You can begin with built-in equipment on your computer and phone, but in time, you may want to upgrade your equipment. We will provide advice to help you make the best choice.
